The Kite Runner Project
The kite project was a very new experience for all of us. I was able to learn that I actually had artistic skills inside me. I think the Kite Project was the best art-related work I have ever done in my life. It made me think of how Amir has felt when he got his kite. This project indirectly made us feel the happiness Amir would have felt when he got his own kite for the first time.
The creation of this kite was very difficult because everyone except one of our groupmate ever flown a kite, and he flew the kite by buying an already made plastic kite. We didn’t know how to start with this because we had no background information about kites except for the Kite Runner, but we eventually learned how to put things together using the internet. After we were able to make a standard rhombus kite, we started researching about different looking kites that suits the aspects of the Kite Runner we have to put in.
Our group decided to create a tetrahedron kite. We chose the shape of a pyramid because there were 4 themes we wanted to portray and 4 aspects (theme, character, turning point, and symbol) of the Kite Runner. We thought of doing the box kite, but I thought each 4 aspects deserve its own space in order to make each aspect easier to understand and see. I felt that the 4 pyramids connect themselves with each other, even though there isn’t a lot of area where the sides meet. I also felt that the 4 aspects don’t have much in common, but they still add up to create a great story. I saw the connection between the tetrahedron kite and the 4 aspects of the Kite Runner, so our group chose to create a tetrahedron kite.
The Kite has 4 aspects of the Kite Runner: the symbol, character, turning point, and theme. It has 4 different colors that represent the 4 parts of the book. The red represents the betrayal of Amir, the blue represents the emptiness Amir feels after he leaves Hassan in Afghanistan and leaves to America, the orange represents the small fire that lit Amir’s heart when he found out he can make amends to what he has done to Amir, and the green represents the growth of Amir while he meets adversities that hinders him from saving Sohrab. The 3 tails represent the 3 major parts of the story. They include Amir’s childhood, Life in America, and the rescue of Sohrab
