About Hassan and his family:

1.) Sanaubar was Ali's wife, or Hassan's mother. The difference between Sanaubar and Amir's mother was that Sanaubar was not a nice woman; she was unloving and rude, even to her son, Hassan. For example, she didn't like how her son had a cleft lip when he was born.

2.) Ali was the servant for Amir's household. All the children in the neighborhood call him "Babalu." Babalu means 'the boogey-man'. They call him Babalu because he is half- paralyzed in his face, he also limps when he walks due to polio. The kids are scared of him, while the adults make fun of Ali.
