SuperFreakonomics: Global Cooling, Patriotic Prostitutes, and Why Suicide Bombers Should Buy Life Insurance
By: Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt
I chose this book as my favorite book of the quarter because this book is unlike any book I have ever read. This is a book that describes about every issue of the world, but in an eye of an economist. It provides facts and their conclusions based on the facts, but they don’t want to influence the readers with eloquent words or well written frauds. The authors say in the introduction that this book is trying inform us about the issues of the world based on economics, not to trick the readers. This book describes the reason people act in a way, such as Such as the suicide bombers of 9/11. As I started reading this book, I started to understand the hidden issues of the world and how the hidden issues affect the world.
Stephen J. Dubner is an American journalist who has written seven books and numerous articles. Steven Levitt is an American economist known for his work in the field of crime, in particular on the link between legalized abortion and crime rates. The two decided to work to create a book of economics. The best aspect of the book is that one of the authors is specialized at writing, and the latter at the topic that is being written. This collaboration created, in my opinion, created of the greatest unbiased book about economics ever written. I was interested in the field of economics and motives behind peoples’ actions, and I confronted this amazing book while researching about this field. There is a section in a book that describes how an alalysist tries to predict who is a potential bomber, and that reminded me of the time I tried to figure out who broke my favorite lego building from my friends. This is an amazing book that will completely change how you view the world, and if you get a chance, read it. You won’t regret it.
