Making Connections: Text to text, World, and Self

Story: In the story Amir used to play a lot with his friend, Hassan. When they were children, they played with each other with reflecting the sun light with a mirror or firing walnuts with sling shots.

Text: In the Korean book “Kyongbokgoong Friend” the two main characters are rich nobles from about 1000 years ago, in Joseon Dynasty. They used to play a lot with each other just like Hassan and Amir. They made good memories until they grew up. The main character’s father was the king of Joseon. The man becomes the king of Joseon after his dad dies. The other man who used to be the king’s best friend got mad and jealous. He tried to kill his best friend, but the but the protagonist found out that his friend was planning for a coup. But the king forgave him because they once were the best friends and they had their good memories about each other.

World: A high school student in China has spent three years shouldering the responsibility of ensuring that his physically disabled friend gets to all his classes. 18-year-old Xie Xu met his 19-year-old classmate Zhang Chi when the pair began attending school together at high school. Zhang had a handicap so it was hard to walk or even carry his own weight. But Xie carried him to the school and every class. This is a little bit different from the text in “kite runner” but I chose this because their friendship was good.

Story: In the story, Amir and Hassan both do not have a mom right now. And soldiers teased Hassan about his mom.

Text: There is book named “mother” which is very sad book. It is really similar to ‘kite runner’ It is about mother and her young poor child’s life. But the child’s mother died because even though she was sick, she could not buy the medicine. After she dies, the child make hard effort to live by himself but he dies at the end too.

Text: Same as book above, in book ‘mother’ the mom and her child is poor. When the child go to school, other classmates tease him or ignore. That is the reason why the boy does not have friend. He also gets lots of stress. He cries a lot. Even though he dies at the end, no one cares about the boy.

World: There are many young children who do not have their biological mothers with them. A huge percentage of the children in the world are in an orphanage, waiting for a small chance that may get them adopted and start a better life with a new family. There was a boy named Hang Boek in Korea. And she wants get adopted but she has to wait for the Americans’ permission to let her get adopted by an American couple. She, like Hassan and Amir, does not have a mother or a father to take care of her. I hope she can overcome all the adversities that hinders her from transforming her life, and live like any other kid from a typical family.

Self: In the book it Amir says that " Baba was impossible to ignore, even in his sleep." I have the same problem with my sister. She has a horrible snoring problem that keeps me up for hours! I feel you, Amir!!!
